Dear parents:
As we begin our new 2015-2016 school year I would like to welcome you to our wonderful school. My name is Ms. Sara and I am looking forward to being your child’s teacher this year. I am sure that it will be an exciting and rewarding year for all of us.
If during the school year you have any questions or would like to schedule a conference with me, please write me a note or call the school office at (801) 392-5784 and leave a message. I will respond to your note or return your call as soon as possible in order to arrange a convenient time for us to meet.
I am looking forward to meeting each of you personally and working with you and your child to make this year a most productive and rewarding one. I thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.

Sincerely,
Ms. Sara Johansen
God bless you this new school year!
In order to ensure that my students are prepared to meet the challenges of every day, I am sending you some important information.
Attendance/Responsibility
It is very important for each child to arrive on time to school. Students who miss a class, or come late, missing Devotional and Circle Time (motivation for lesson), unfortunately will need extra help to reach the same level of the other students. Besides this, the child will develop poor habits that will affect his/her progress. I understand that there will be unanticipated emergencies in which a tardy or an absence can be excused.
Home/School Communication Folder

This folder will go home daily and it is important that it be brought back daily. Please send all notes, money, and other important notices you want me to see in your child’s folder. The purpose of this folder is to carry communication notes between parents and teachers. Also, in this folder you will be informed of events that will be held in school and class.
Behavior
Rules and procedures for proper behavior as outlined by the school in The Policy and Procedure Manual and by the teacher are necessary in order to maintain a safe and orderly classroom. If I consider it necessary, I will request a parent teacher conference in order to help the child improve his/her behavior. In this way we will be able to work as a team (parent and teacher) to make sure the child gets closer to achieving his/her goals.
Classroom Code of Conduct
- Love your neighbor as yourself.
- Respect yourself and others.
- Raise hand when wishing to speak.
- Follow the instructions.
- Always try your best.
Curriculum

My classroom works with Zoo Phonics and Firefly Funshine express Curriculum. This is a wonderful curriculum that provides students with valuable; Bible based teachings in subjects such as Math, Reading, Social Studies, Science, Art, Music, and Physical Education.
Breakfast Snack, Lunch, and Snacks
As you already know, WCELS provides breakfast snacks, lunch and snacks during the day to our children. The menu is highly nutritional and balanced in such a way as to cover all of the nutritional needs of your child. Our daily menu of morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack are available for your review at any time. .
Special Class Activities
- Show and Tell
I love you have show and tell with the children on the last day of our school week. I only ask that the show and tell go along with our monthly theme.
- Birthday
These are days we remember and celebrate miracles of God. Every child is the evidence of God’s miracle.
You can feel free to bring birthday treats if you please. We would appreciate it very much. If your child’s birthday falls in June, July, or August when school is not in session, we will have a Summer Birthday Celebration Day for these children during the last week of the school year. While I will prepare this party, you are welcome to bring birthday treats for your child’s Summer Birthday Party.
- “Me and My Family” photo
I encourage every child in my class to bring a picture of their family to hang up on a bulletin board or to keep in their cubby; I find that helps children that may have a hard time binging away from home. I also ask that each child bring a picture to put on its nametag to help with name recognition.
- Class “pet”
Every year I let my students pick a stuffed animal that becomes our class pet. Each child will have a chance to keep our pet over a weekend, they are than encouraged to draw a picture and dictate to their grown up a story about what they did together over the week end.
Finally, I want to thank you in advance for your time and consideration. If you have any questions feel free to call me. It will be my pleasure to return your class as soon as possible. With the blessing of our Lord and Savior we can be sure that this will be a great year for all of us.
Thank you and God bless you!
Sincerely,
Sara Johansen
